The National Archives' collection in Brisbane

The strengths of the collection include:

• immigration records that date from the 1850s
• post office and mail service records and photographs
• works plans which cover everything from iconic buildings such as the General Post Office and Customs House, to defence service homes built in typical Queenslander fashion.

These records, taking the form of files and images, provide a rich source of information on local history.

Research Centre opening hours

Our Research Centre is open from 9 am to 4:30 pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. We are closed on public holidays.

Entry

Entry to the National Archives is free.

Facilities

Public toilets with disabled facilities are on the ground floor level. A public kitchen with tea and coffee facilities is also on the ground floor.

Assistance animals

Visitors with recognised assistance animals, including guide and hearing dogs, are welcome.

Public transport

The Queensland Office is serviced by bus route 227, which stops on the Wynnum Road 'archives' stop. Other bus routes terminate at Cannon Hill Plaza, a 600-metre walk.
