Spy: Espionage in Australia – exhibition films

The Spy: Espionage in Australia exhibition reveals the personal experiences of intelligence officers and secret agents and the curious history of espionage and counter-espionage in Australia.

The National Archives of Australia worked with ASIO and other security organisations to bring the stories of spies out of the shadows and into the light.

Used to train intelligence officers, the movie Legal Resident features agent Kay Marshall and her relationship with Soviet Diplomat and KGB officer Ivan Skripov. Over the course of the video she reveals the different covert communication techniques used by spies and officers in the field.

The officers

Behind every record and photograph used in this exhibition is a man or woman who has chosen to live their life 'in the shadows'.

Through our collaboration with ASIO, the National Archives is able to offer a glimpse into the lives of those working in the intelligence and security field, from their childhood aspirations to their daily motivations.
